Sleep and Relaxation – A Natural Remedy to Prevent Most Conditions

Sleeping is very important and everyone should know it by now. After all, without sleep, we can’t really function properly and we won’t be able to do the things that we need to do. However, just how important is sleep really, with regards to your overall health? Also, how much sleep do you really need?

A person that sleeps at least 6-7 hours a day is more likely to be healthier than someone who sleeps less than that. Lack of quality sleep can actually make you more prone to developing illnesses and conditions. Having said that, here are some health benefits that you will experience if you can get the right amount of quality sleep daily.

Stress Relief

Sleeping will help your body relax, that’s just a fact. If you are sleep deprived, your body will start to panic and produce more stress hormones and raise your blood pressure. This puts you at high risk of heart problems or stroke.

Getting a good quality sleep is very important and some tips that I can share are the following:

  • Learn relaxation techniques such as meditation.
  • Start a “just before sleeping ritual” and stick with it. This can be anything like reading a book, taking a shower or anything really.
  • Get rid of distractions in your bedroom. The bedroom is a place for sleeping and sleeping only. Take the TV to another room, get rid of electronic devices and anything that can distract you before sleeping. It will help you relax more and just focus on falling asleep.
  • Invest in a good quality mattress or bed. If you are considering getting a new mattress, you’re very lucky as there are countless of cheap but high quality mattresses out there that you can order online. Some examples are Dynasty Mattress, Saatva, Bear, Leesa and many more. I personally use a dynasty mattress and I can highly recommend it. Here is a dynasty mattress review to help you decide if it is also good for you: Remember to read reviews of mattresses if you are buying online because it is a very big purchase and you don’t want to be stuck with a mattress that will not help you sleep better.

Dietary benefits

It may seem absurd that sleeping has anything to do with losing or controlling your weight. However, it does have an effect on your ability to gain or lose weight. Lack of sleep can disrupt the balance of hormones in your body that directly affects your appetite. If you don’t get at least around 7 hours of sleep daily, you will tend to gain more weight and become obese or overweight.

If you sleep a good amount the night before, you will find yourself more able to focus and complete your tasks more efficiently. A good amount of sleep helps the body refresh itself and in turn, you will have more energy.

Health benefits

Sleeping will allow your body to rest and this will have great health benefits. For one, when you are sleeping, the body repairs itself from all the stress and damage done from your day. Also, sleep will help you minimize the risk of having depression. Serotonin is a chemical in your body that correlates to depression. If you lack serotonin, the chances of being depressed is heightened.

Leaky Gut Syndrome – What you need to know

What exactly is leaky gut syndrome? It is a disorder that is very common but very little is actually known about it. Having leaky gut syndrome means that your intestine is inflamed and irritated. This inflammation and irritation causes foreign objects to enter the bloodstream. Having these substances in the bloodstream is very bad and this results in different illnesses and health problems.

The gut is a very important part of our immune system and making sure that it is in good health will prevent you from having health problems, minor and major. A healthy gut will be able to filter everything that we eat and only absorb those that are essential and discard the detrimental ones. If you have leaky gut, the intestine will not be able to perform its intended function and this can result in auto immune disorders.

Symptoms of Leaky Gut

There are various symptoms when you suspect that you have leaky gut. Some are very minor while some are serious illnesses that need to be addressed immediately. Most of these symptoms are very inconvenient to have because they will always return and will never be rid off entirely until your gut is back at its optimal health.

Since we are dealing with the gut, some of the more common symptoms that you will encounter are those that affect your digestive tract. Persistent constipation, diarrhea, gassing, pain in the abdominal area, bloating, food intolerance and sensitivities.

Other symptoms such as sleep deprivation, insomnia, brain fog, fuzzy or loss of memory, anxiety, depression, extreme highs and lows of mood and fatigue are also very common when you are dealing with a leaky gut. Skin problems can also be caused by a leaky gut. All of these can be considered the minor symptoms that you can experience with the disorder. Important to note though is that, not everyone will experience the same set of symptoms.

Some of the major symptoms that you can experience with a leaky gut are auto immune diseases like psoriasis, celiac, Crohn’s and arthritis. This happens when your leaky gut is not controlled as soon as possible. What happens is that the auto immune system of your body has been compromised and is now in a state of confusion. It attacks the healthy parts of the body instead of protecting it because it is worked to the extreme due to the endless supply of foreign objects or substances that enter the bloodstream.

Treatment Options

The treatment options for leaky gut syndrome comes down to making dietary changes as well as lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, there are no prescription drugs that can heal leaky gut instantly and this can either be a good thing or bad thing depending on how you look at it. It can be good because it will force you to adapt a healthy lifestyle and diet but it can also be bad because you will have to endure for as long as the gut returns to its optimal health.

The treatment for leaky gut follows a holistic or alternative approach and it starts with your diet.

The most obvious culprit as to why you may have leaky gut in the first place is the food that you eat. Your food makes its way to the intestines and if you eat a lot of foods that cause irritation and inflammation to the gut, you need to make changes immediately. Foods that are known to cause problems to the intestinal walls are those that are processed to the point where there is minimal nurtitional content remaining. So basically, junk foods and processed foods are a big no-no when it comes to your diet. These can irritate the intestinal walls and if you continue eating them regularly, you will only further the damage already done.

Foods that contain a huge amount of sugar should be eaten sparingly as sugar, when taken in at a huge amount, is very bad to the intestinal flora. Sugar is the primary food source of yeast and an overgrowth of yeast in the gut will result in more problems such as Candidiasis.

Dietary supplements play a big role in the healing of your gut. There are a few that you need to be taking regularly to help regulate the gut and keep it healthy.

Probiotics help in maintaining the balance of bacteria in the gut. The gut hosts a number of good and bad bacteria. The bad bacteria are essential but it should never outgrow the good bacteria and this is where probiotics play a part.

Fiber is essential in maintaining a healthy bowel movement. It allows the waste that would otherwise accumulate in the intestine to be flushed out of the body immediately. Getting rid of waste products as soon as possible is optimal.

Cod liver oil contains omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D. These are all great for improving the immune system.

Digestive enzymes will help you digest food faster and minimize the number of potential foreign objects in the bloodstream.

Having a stressful lifestyle can take a toll on your body’s health. If you are always stressed out by work, relationship, school, kids or some other reason, your body may react in a negative fashion. And with this, the different organs of the body may become inefficient in doing what they are supposed to be doing and this can lead to health problems, one of which is having a leaky gut.

Relaxing and reducing the amount of stress is easier said than done but if you want to heal the gut completely, you will need to find ways to do so. Some examples that I can think of are getting the required amount of sleep and if this requires that you take some time off from some activities that are not really important, then so be it. Other ways to reduce stress is to drink green tea regularly.
