Natural Ways to Look Young

Almost everyone I know that are getting up there in age wants to go back in time to look and feel young again. They think of plastic surgeries or botox treatments on the regular and this, I think, is not good. First of all, plastic surgeries cost a ton and if you take the time to research, they just look fake and unnatural. Same with botox, some people I know that have had this done look so much worse than their natural “aging” look.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t go ahead and have these treatments done, it’s your call but I want you to look at natural methods first before deciding which route you will take. There are several ways to look younger without having to spend thousands of dollars and these are very easy to do at home. Here they are.

Live a healthy lifestyle

First of all, you should try to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Keeping stress at a low level and getting the right amount of sleep can do wonders to your skin. One of the things that can accelerate the worsening of your skin is high levels of stress and not getting enough sleep.

Another thing that you should always take care of is your eating habits. A well balanced diet that provides you with all the nutrients that you need as well as drinking a lot of water instead of sodas and other beverages can be very effective in keeping your skin looking young.

If you are a coffee drinker such as myself, you should try to minimize it and drink cocoa instead. Cocoa can be very beneficial to the skin as it can improve blood circulation and protect your skin from the sun.

Skin care products that are advertised to help with skin rejuvenation do work, however, they will work better and be more efficient if you lay down the groundwork by living a healthy lifestyle.

Use sunscreen every time you will be out in the sun for an extended period of time

Seriously, a lot of people I know are very reckless when it comes to protection from the sun and later on, they will complain of skin flaking and other problems. Applying sunscreen is one of the most effective ways to combat aging as it will protect your skin from the UV rays of the sun and prevent your skin from getting damaged.

However, don’t think that using sunscreen regularly will immediately show its effects. Sunscreen is more of a preventative solution instead of treatment. If your skin is already damaged, it will take a lot of time for the effects of the sunscreen to show.

Wash your face regularly but don’t overdo it

Washing your face before you go to sleep or when you get home after a time outside is a good way to keep it clean and looking good. However, don’t wash your face every time you have a chance as this can wash away the natural oils and moisture on your face that helps protect against wrinkles and other skin problems. Also, use soap with moisturizers as this can help the skin glow and become softer.

There you have it, simple and easy ways to keep your skin looking youthful and glowing. By following these steps right now, you are already on your way to looking young and feeling great.

Tips to Stop Smoking

Smoking is one of the hardest habits to quit. All the evidences are there that it is bad for you but you just can’t.

I know a lot of people that want to quit but they just can’t seem to. Some of them quit for a while but then the next time I see them, they have a cigarette in hand.

Here are some tips that I have personally tested and done on my way to stop smoking.

  • Tell people around you that you want to quit seek their support

Being shamed is very effective when it comes to quitting smoking. If you want to appear as a man of your word, you will want to stop smoking once you’ve made a public announcement that you do. It’s also not only about being shamed. People around you, especially those that don’t smoke will want to support you and this can have a big impact on your quest to stop.

  • Keep track of the days

The first few days will be the hardest but if you manage to hold on for at least 3 weeks, it’s going to get easier. The urges to smoke will still be there but it won’t be as strong as the first couple of weeks.

  • List the situations where you usually smoke and make a conscious effort to stop

Making a list of the situations where you usually smoke and having a counter plan will help tremendously. In my situation, I usually smoked whenever I’m playing video games, taking a dump, after eating and during breaks.

As for video games, I just made a rule that smoking will not be allowed inside the house – any part of the house. This also helped during bathroom breaks. I stuck to this rule and it helped lessen my smoking.

After every meal and during breaks at work was kind of hard because after a meal, the urge is really strong and when I’m at work, going out of the building during breaks usually means I’m with colleagues that smoke as well. What I did is, after every meal, I just chewed some gum until the urge to smoke is tolerable. During breaks, I just told my peers that I didn’t want to step out for at least a month just so I can control my smoking.

  • Drink water

Drinking lots of water can be very good for you when you try to stop smoking. Having a bottle of water with you everytime can help you get over the urge to smoke. The trick here is to distract yourself by drinking when you want to smoke. After drinking a bottle of water, the craving for smokes will usually have dissipated.

  • Exercise

Exercising will have a great effect on your health, obviously, but it can also help you stop smoking. When you are working out, the brain releases chemicals that will make you feel good about yourself. This can stop you from getting the urge to smoke. Also, once you have started working out or just doing some simple exercises, you will start to be health conscious and will try to stop doing harm to your body. This includes stopping dangerous habits such as drinking and smoking.

  • Identify what you like about smoking and try an alternative

For me, personally, I liked the sensation of having a cigarette in my hand and puffing as it relaxes me. What I did was take a ballpen (clean, of course), and I would always have it in my hand and occasionally chew on it. This is a very simple idea but it helped me in my quest to quit smoking.

Leaky Gut Syndrome – What you need to know

What exactly is leaky gut syndrome? It is a disorder that is very common but very little is actually known about it. Having leaky gut syndrome means that your intestine is inflamed and irritated. This inflammation and irritation causes foreign objects to enter the bloodstream. Having these substances in the bloodstream is very bad and this results in different illnesses and health problems.

The gut is a very important part of our immune system and making sure that it is in good health will prevent you from having health problems, minor and major. A healthy gut will be able to filter everything that we eat and only absorb those that are essential and discard the detrimental ones. If you have leaky gut, the intestine will not be able to perform its intended function and this can result in auto immune disorders.

Symptoms of Leaky Gut

There are various symptoms when you suspect that you have leaky gut. Some are very minor while some are serious illnesses that need to be addressed immediately. Most of these symptoms are very inconvenient to have because they will always return and will never be rid off entirely until your gut is back at its optimal health.

Since we are dealing with the gut, some of the more common symptoms that you will encounter are those that affect your digestive tract. Persistent constipation, diarrhea, gassing, pain in the abdominal area, bloating, food intolerance and sensitivities.

Other symptoms such as sleep deprivation, insomnia, brain fog, fuzzy or loss of memory, anxiety, depression, extreme highs and lows of mood and fatigue are also very common when you are dealing with a leaky gut. Skin problems can also be caused by a leaky gut. All of these can be considered the minor symptoms that you can experience with the disorder. Important to note though is that, not everyone will experience the same set of symptoms.

Some of the major symptoms that you can experience with a leaky gut are auto immune diseases like psoriasis, celiac, Crohn’s and arthritis. This happens when your leaky gut is not controlled as soon as possible. What happens is that the auto immune system of your body has been compromised and is now in a state of confusion. It attacks the healthy parts of the body instead of protecting it because it is worked to the extreme due to the endless supply of foreign objects or substances that enter the bloodstream.

Treatment Options

The treatment options for leaky gut syndrome comes down to making dietary changes as well as lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, there are no prescription drugs that can heal leaky gut instantly and this can either be a good thing or bad thing depending on how you look at it. It can be good because it will force you to adapt a healthy lifestyle and diet but it can also be bad because you will have to endure for as long as the gut returns to its optimal health.

The treatment for leaky gut follows a holistic or alternative approach and it starts with your diet.

Diet

The most obvious culprit as to why you may have leaky gut in the first place is the food that you eat. Your food makes its way to the intestines and if you eat a lot of foods that cause irritation and inflammation to the gut, you need to make changes immediately. Foods that are known to cause problems to the intestinal walls are those that are processed to the point where there is minimal nurtitional content remaining. So basically, junk foods and processed foods are a big no-no when it comes to your diet. These can irritate the intestinal walls and if you continue eating them regularly, you will only further the damage already done.

Foods that contain a huge amount of sugar should be eaten sparingly as sugar, when taken in at a huge amount, is very bad to the intestinal flora. Sugar is the primary food source of yeast and an overgrowth of yeast in the gut will result in more problems such as Candidiasis.

Supplements

Dietary supplements play a big role in the healing of your gut. There are a few that you need to be taking regularly to help regulate the gut and keep it healthy.

Probiotics help in maintaining the balance of bacteria in the gut. The gut hosts a number of good and bad bacteria. The bad bacteria are essential but it should never outgrow the good bacteria and this is where probiotics play a part.

Fiber is essential in maintaining a healthy bowel movement. It allows the waste that would otherwise accumulate in the intestine to be flushed out of the body immediately. Getting rid of waste products as soon as possible is optimal.

Cod liver oil contains omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D. These are all great for improving the immune system.

Digestive enzymes will help you digest food faster and minimize the number of potential foreign objects in the bloodstream.

Lifestyle

Having a stressful lifestyle can take a toll on your body’s health. If you are always stressed out by work, relationship, school, kids or some other reason, your body may react in a negative fashion. And with this, the different organs of the body may become inefficient in doing what they are supposed to be doing and this can lead to health problems, one of which is having a leaky gut.

Relaxing and reducing the amount of stress is easier said than done but if you want to heal the gut completely, you will need to find ways to do so. Some examples that I can think of are getting the required amount of sleep and if this requires that you take some time off from some activities that are not really important, then so be it. Other ways to reduce stress is to drink green tea regularly.
